Weather conditions push regatta to begin Friday
MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota is off to the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park for the 2026 Big Ten Rowing Championships and due to potentially dangerous conditions Saturday, has been moved to May 15 and 17. The first of seven races for the Golden Gophers is now set for 5:10 p.m. (CT) Friday evening in Indianapolis, Ind., with live streaming coverage available through B1G+, while Sunday's finals will air live on the Big Ten Network and the FOX Sports app.
The Maroon and Gold placed seventh in last year's expanded, 11-team field and turn to a veteran-laden lineup as it looks to improve on that performance heading into the 2026 regatta. Of the teams set to take to the water this year, five are ranked in the CRCA/Pocock National Poll.
Saturday's heats will be split into groups of five and six. The top three finishers from each heat will advance to the Grand Finals on Sunday, while the remaining five boats will compete in the Petite Finals. An awards ceremony will follow the final race of the regatta Sunday afternoon at approximately 11:15 a.m. (CT).

Last Time on the Water
Minnesota turned in a dominant performance at the Twin Cities 2K, piling up 11 race victories across two sessions versus Iowa, Kansas, and Wisconsin on the waters of Lake Phalen in the program's first home regatta in a decade. The Golden Gophers were not daunted by a steady headwind while sweeping the opening four heats against the Hawkeyes, highlighted by an 11-second win from the First Varsity Eight to set the day's fastest time. The Maroon and Gold claimed a total of six victories in the morning and added five more in the afternoon, including another First Varsity Eight win and a dramatic Second Varsity Eight finish decided by less than a second. Minnesota closed the regatta with a decisive Fourth Varsity Eight victory to cap a memorable day of racing on home water.
Picked up a B1G Weekly Award
For their standout efforts at the Rocky Top Invite to start the spring portion of the schedule last month, Minnesota's First Varsity Eight crew earned Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week honors. The Gophers upset No. 14 Penn and No. 25 USC in the semifinal with a late rally and their fastest 2,000-meter time of the regatta, advancing to the 'A' final and finishing fifth on Melton Hill Lake. The honor marks the first weekly award of 2025-26 for the Maroon and Gold, extending the program's streak to three-straight years with a conference-recognized boat.

The FSN Watchlist featured student-athletes that are steadily "on the rise" and have the potential to make a significant impact.
Schimnowski Honored as RBC Future Olympian
Minnesota sophomore Lexi Schimnowski was identified as a 2025 RBC Future Olympian by National Sport Organization (NSO) scouts in February. This honor came after she took part in a gathering of Canada's Top 100 athletes at the RBC Training Ground National Final back in November. As one of the top 35 selected, the East St. Paul, Manitoba, native will receive funding and dedicated support as she continues her pursuit of representing Team Canada on the international stage.
Gophers' Captains Named for 2025-26
The Gophers announced their three captains for the 2025-26 season, including a returning leader and two new captains. Senior Manon Field (Hudson, Wis.) is back for her second year in the leadership group and is joined this year by junior Josefine Freltoft (Copenhagen, Denmark) and senior Nuala Macfarlane.
