University of Minnesota Athletics
One of the six commitments of the Gopher Athletics Department is to champion diversity and inclusion. Gopher Athletics accomplishes this by focusing on three key actions:
- Provide a respectful and inclusive environment for all student-athletes, coaches and staff.
- Connect with all communities to recruit and seek out difference.
- Broaden our diversity through intentional recruiting and hiring practices.
The University of Minnesota Athletics Department aims to be a leader on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. To ensure that Gopher Athletics is living up to the commitment to champion diversity and inclusion, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee was formed. The committee began initial work in 2017 to create a comprehensive Four-Year Plan for 2019-2023. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee utilized the following resources during the planning process of the Four-Year Plan:

Diversity and Inclusion Four-Year Plan
The Golden Gopher Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Four-Year Plan focuses on department-wide initiatives for student-athletes, coaches, administrators, staff, donors/boosters, fans, contract employees, and the athletics community. These initiatives are designed to create awareness, education and provide the tools necessary that actively promote an inclusive and diverse community. The goal of diversity and inclusion is to foster an environment in which all members of the U of M Athletics community are treated equitably, contribute fully to the athletic departments mission, and embrace and model the department’s values.
