All Starters Reach Base in 12-2 Win against St. Thomas

Minnesota got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Golden Gophers put 12 runs on the board and defeat the St. Thomas Tommies 12-2 Wednesday.

Senior Justin Thorsteinson (2-3) got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota (13-17). The left-hander went two shutout innings, giving up two hits. Sophomore Kyle Remington also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Gophers were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Senior Jake Perry put Minnesota on the board with a one-out solo home run off senior Tucker Huhn.

The Golden Gophers kept the deficit at 2-1 before taking the lead in the fourth. The Minnesota offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of senior Josh Fitzgerald, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Golden Gophers.

Minnesota kept St. Thomas (MN) scoreless before building their lead to 12-2 in the seventh inning. The Golden Gophers bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a one-run single off the bat of sophomore Charlie Sutherland. The score remained 12-2 for the rest of the game, as Minnesota coasted to the win.
