Gophers Drop Game Two Against Indiana 7-2

BLOOMINGTON, IND. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out game two of their three game series against Indiana University this afternoon, falling to the Hoosiers 7-2 on the road at Bart Kaufman Stadium.
Isaac Morton got the ball to start for Minnesota and was credited with the loss. Tyler Hemmesch was a bright spot for the Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning.
Offensively, the Gophers were led by Jack Spanier, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Michael Lippe furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Davis Hamilton also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning, scoring on an RBI single through the right side of the infield off the bat of Michael Lippe.
The Hoosiers failed to push any runs across before the Gopher offense got back to their scoring ways in the fifth, picking up a run on a solo homer over the left field wall from Jack Spanier to bring the Minnesota lead to 2-0.
The Gophers were unable to hold the lead though, as Indiana scored seven times over the remaining four innings to grab game two of the series with a score of 7-2.
GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed one run across.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 36 Indiana hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out eight.
