Sutherland Notches 4 RBIs in Minnesota's 10-5 Win Against Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO- Sophomore Charlie Sutherland collected four RBIs to help lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers past the Ohio State Buckeyes 10-5 on Friday.
Senior Eli Sundquist (2-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota (14-17, 3-10). The right-hander went 1.1 shutout innings while giving up one hit. Sophomore Will Whelan also made an impact on the mound for the Golden Gophers, throwing three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Sutherland went 2-for-5 with a home run in addition to his four RBIs for the Golden Gophers. Junior Drew Berkland furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBI. Freshman Jameson Martin also helped out for Minnesota, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Minnesota got a grand slam from Sutherland off of sophomore Drew Erdmann, scoring all four of their runs in the inning.
The Buckeyes then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 4-1 until the Golden Gophers expanded their advantage in the fourth. Senior Jake Perry's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Minnesota scored twice, which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 6-1.
Ohio State narrowed Minnesota's lead to 6-5 before the Golden Gophers stretched the advantage to 8-5 in the eighth inning.
Minnesota held the Buckeyes without a run before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Golden Gophers added two runs when a single from Berkland brought home sophomore Brayden Hellum and Martin, bringing the score to 10-5 in favor of Minnesota. The score remained 10-5 for the rest of the game, as the Golden Gophers coasted to the win.
