Minnesota Leads From Second Inning on in 9-2 Victory Against Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO- The Minnesota Golden Gophers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 9-2 win against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday.
Sophomore Kyle Remington (1-5) started on the mound and picked up the win for Minnesota (15-17, 4-10). The right-hander went five shutout innings while giving up three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Minnesota plated two runs when junior Easton Richter left the yard with freshman Jameson Martin aboard.
The Buckeyes failed to push any runs across before the Golden Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Minnesota pushed across a run on senior Josh Fitzgerald's two-out RBI double, which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 3-0.
Minnesota kept Ohio State scoreless before building their lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning. The Golden Gophers notched three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Charlie Sutherland.
The Buckeyes fought back, closing the gap to 6-1 until Minnesota added some insurance in the eighth. The Golden Gophers picked up two runs when a single from junior Drew Berkland scored Richter and Sutherland, bringing the score to 8-1 in favor of Minnesota.
The Golden Gophers held Ohio State scoreless before expanding their lead to 9-1 the following inning. Minnesota pushed across a run on Richter's one-out RBI double. Ohio State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Gophers still coasted to the 9-2 win.
