Minnesota Headed to East Lansing for Big Ten Championships

The meet begins at 9:35 a.m. CT at Forest Akers East Golf Course.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Postseason competition kicks off for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers cross country teams this Friday, Oct. 31, when the Maroon and Gold travel to East Lansing, Mich., for the 2025 Big Ten Conference Championships. The men's 8K (4.97 miles) race starts at 9:35 a.m. CT, while the women's 6K (3.73 miles) begins at 10:35 a.m. CT.
BIG TEN SQUAD
The women's team will race 12 student-athletes in Ann Arbor while the men will have nine in uniform:
The men's entries consist of Emmet Anderson, Jaedyn Chase, Aloysius Franzen, Emmett Gerres, Leo Goodman, Shane Greipentrog, Aidan Jones, Tyler Kissell, Sam Scott and Nolan Sutter.
The women will be represented by Lila Branchaw, Zoie Dundon, Norah Hushagen, Taylor Isabel, Charlotte Lange, Avery Marasco-Johnson, Caroline Mendyk, Grace Mignone, Caitlyn Osanai, Nadia Phillips, Izzy Roemer and Isabelle Schmitz.
ABOUT BIG TENS
The 2025 Big Ten Cross Country Championships will be held at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. and takes place on Oct. 31, with all 18 Big Ten teams in attendance. This will be the second Big Ten Championships with the four new member schools Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington. All 18 teams will have women's teams in competition and 15 teams will have men's teams running. Outside of the team championships, awards will be handed out to individuals who finish in the top 10 (First Team All-Big Ten) and individuals who finish between 11th and 20th (Second Team All-Big Ten). Placement on the All-Freshman Team will consist of the top five (5) freshman and redshirt freshman finishers for men's and women's.
LAST TIME OUT
A portion of the Maroon and Gold participated in Rocky's Run to conclude the 2025 regular season, but the last full team run came on Oct. 17, at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., and the Pre-Nationals meet in Columbia, Mo., with the men finishing sixth, in Missouri while the women were 24th at Wisconsin. The Maroon and Gold's top individual finishers were Aidan Jones (44th, 24:02.5) and Isabelle Schmitz (76th, 20:56.7). Additionally, running to an unattached victory in the Nuttycombe Invitational 6K B Race was Ali Weimer who clocked a 20:21.1 in the win.

Minnesota's last Big Ten championship performance came from the women's team at the 2021 Big Ten Championships, capturing the team's first team title since 2008. Megan Hasz won the individual title a year after her sister Bethany Hasz had won for the Gophers. A season ago then-junior Ali Weimer captured an individual bronze medal with the fastest Big Ten Championships time (19:25.0) in program history. As a team the women in 2024 finished fifth out of 18 with Izzy Roemer (40th) and Isabelle Schmitz (42nd) both returning from Minnesota's top five Big Ten Championship finishers.
In 2024 the men were 11th out of 15 teams with 301 team points. Lucas Florsheim was the top individual finisher for the Maroon and Gold men at 34th (23:26.7). Aidan Jones (48th) and Emmet Anderson (76th) are the two returners from the Gopher top five from last season's Big Ten Championships.

NCAA championship season lies ahead for the Maroon and Gold, as both the men's and women's teams will head to Stillwater, Okla., on Fri., Nov. 14 for the NCAA Midwest Regional. Oklahoma State will play host to the Regional Championship, and will hold both races on the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course with races starting at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. CT.
