Minnesota tied a season-best with 15 hits, but was unable to keep Campbell in check in an 11-7 defeat on Friday. The Gophers (3-2) were led at the dish by Matt Fiedler, who went 3-for-5 in the contest.

The Maroon and Gold collected multi-hit performances from six other hitters, including Connor Schaefbauer and Jordan Smith, who each added a pair of RBI on the afternoon.

Fiedler got the nod on the mound and went 5.2 innings, allowing five runs and notching a career-high with eight strikeouts.

The Camels (3-2) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when they plated three runs on five hits.

Minnesota evened the score at 3-3 after adding runs in the third and fourth frames. Matt Stemper led off the third with a double to deep left center and was brought in on the next at-bat when Smith laced a single through the left side.

In the fourth, Stemper drew a bases-loaded walk after being down 0-2 in the count to score the Gophers' third run of the day and knot the score up.

Campbell broke the deadlock in the sixth when it got a two-run triple with two outs to make it a 5-3 contest.

The Camels added to their advantage in the following two stanzas, plating three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. The home team picked up two two-out hits that scored five runs to pace Campbell to an eight-run margin at 11-3 in its final two chances at the plate.

Minnesota refused to go down without a fight and showed its resolve in the top of the ninth. After the duo of Dan Motl and Smith smacked doubles, Schaefbauer brought them both in on a single up the middle. Fiedler followed with a double of his own and both he and Schaefbauer scored on a groundout and a single that was flared to left by Toby Hanson.

Campbell was able to stop the threat of a comeback and held on for the victory on its home field, 11-7. The Camels scored eight runs with two outs on the day and limited the Gophers to just one.

The Maroon and Gold return to action tomorrow afternoon against Campbell at Jim Perry Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
