2017Â - SENIOR SEASON:
Started 56 games where he posted a .309 batting average with six home runs, 30 RBIs and 13 doubles - drew a tema leading 33 walks to bump his on-base percentrage to .406 - had a .480 slugging percentage - had a .326 batting average and a .523 slugging percentage in Big Ten play - Big Ten All-Tournament Team - Academic All-Big Ten - was named the Dugout Club Player of the Year. Game Highlights: Recorded three hits including a double and a triple at UC Irvine (2/18) - went 4-5 with four RBIs vs Seattle U (2/26) - Hit his first home run of the season vs Hawaii (3/2) - drove in one run on two hits and one walk vs Oral Roberts (3/3) - scored two runs and drove in one run on a home amd a walk vs Iowa (3/5) - was 2-2 with three walks, two RBIs and one stolen base at Sacramento State (3/17) - smacked a solo home run at Sacramento State (3/18) - picked up two hits including a triple at Ohio State (3/24) - was 2-4 with one home run, four RBIs, three runs scored and one walk at Ohio State (3/25) - reached base three times with two hits and one walk at Michigan State (4/1) - went 2-4 with one double, one RBI and scored two runs at Michigan State (4/2) - picked up two hits and scored one run at Indiana (4/14) - was 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs, one run scored and one walk vs Nebraska (4/22) - smacked two hits vs Nebraska (4/23) - recorded two triples vs Illinois (4/28) - went 4-5 with one walk, one RBI and one run scored at Penn State (5/6) - hit a solo home run vs Rutgers (5/16) - scored two runs after reaching base with one hit and two walks vs Purdue (5/19) - recorded two hits including a double vs Indiana (5/24) - went 2-3 with one walk, one double, two RBIs and scored two runs vs Indiana (5/27) - picked up three hits and one RBI vs Iowa (5/27) in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
2016 - JUNIORÂ SEASON:
Was one of only two Gophers to appear in 57-plus games - held a .296 batting average with 56 hits, including 10 doubles, two triples and three home runs - ranked fifth on the team with 34 RBI - swiped five bases, ranking third on the club, and scored 38 runs - rattled off 23 hits, including three doubles and a home run in Big Ten play - named to the NCAA College Station Regional All-Tournament Team - Academic All-Big Ten. Game Highlights: Laced first career triple and scored twice against Utah Valley (2/20) - touted two RBI versus Utah (2/21) - hit 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double in series opener at Campbell (2/26) - notched a pinch-hit single and came around to score at Campbell (2/28) - smacked a season-high two doubles to go along with two RBI in the series finale at Georgia State (3/6) - recorded two hits and scampered across home plate for a run at Seattle U (3/16) - went 4-for-9 with three doubles, three runs, three RBI and seven putouts at Utah Valley (3/18-3/20) - notched an RBI hit and swiped a base against Augsburg (3/22) - notched four hits, including a double and a triple, to go along with four RBI in series at No. 23 Missouri State (3/25-3/26) - started all three games and drilled a single against Iowa (4/1-4/3) - went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run against Northern Illinois (4/6) - laced an RBI hit at No. 25 Michigan (4/8) - went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI against South Dakota State (4/12) - paced the team with four RBI, including the game-winning RBI to win the series, and extended his hitting streak to seven games versus Maryland (4/15-4/17) - netted a season-high three hits with one RBI and a run at Northwestern (4/23) - laced a two-run single to key series-opening victory at Illinois (4/29) - matched season-high with three hits, scored three runs and swiped a bag to secure series win at Illinois (5/1) - collected three hits, including a double, two RBI and two runs in midweek sweep of Kansas (5/3-5/4) - drilled three doubles and a home run, scored five times and registered three RBI in series against Indiana (5/6-5/8) - secured four hits, two runs and the game-winning RBI in the series-opening win to guide team to sweep of Purdue (5/13-5/15) - scored two runs and secured a single in final series of the regular season against Ohio State (5/19-5/21) - drew a pair of walks in the Big Ten Tournament versus Iowa (5/25) and Michigan (5/26) - drilled a solo home run against Wake Forest (6/3) - went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a roundtripper versus Binghamton (6/4) - collected an RBI double against Wake Forest (6/5) - laced a single to center at Texas A&M (6/5).
2015 - SOPHOMORE SEASON:
Played in 47 games, starting 40 in left field and five in center field - had a perfect fielding percentage and two outfield assists - batted .217 with 20 runs and 23 runs batted in - tied for second on the team with four home runs - 5-for-8 on stolen base attempts - Academic All-Big Ten. Game Highlights: Doubled in the season opener at Houston (2/13) - had four hits, one run, two RBIs and a stolen base at Florida Gulf Coast (3/1) - scored the go-ahead run in a 12-inning win at Creighton (3/7) - hit 2-for-3 with an RBI at Creighton (3/8) -walked three times at VCU (3/16) - had two hits and one run at Maryland (3/21) - knocked out his first home run of the season at Maryland (3/22) - homered and notched three RBIs vs. Carleton (4/8) - had a home run and three RBIs vs. Penn State (4/17) - 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs against Michigan (4/25) - homered vs. Kansas State (4/28) - missed the last series of the season with an injury.
2014 - FRESHMAN SEASON:
Started 40 games, making appearances in all three outfield positions - batted .241 in 137 at-bats - strung together a team-best 18-game on-base streak - was 5-for-7 in stolen base attempts - had a .365 on-base percentage in 23 Big Ten games - Academic All-Big Ten. Game Highlights: Walked multiple times in five games - hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run vs. Creighton (2/21) - had a career high three walks at Saint Mary's College (3/18) - was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in the second game of a doubleheader against Northwestern (3/22) - swiped a base and hit in a run in a two hit game against Michigan State (3/19) - in a win over Michigan (4/4), hit in two runs and walked twice - was 3-for-8 with two RBIs in a doubleheader with Penn State (4/26) - hit a double and scored a run in a mid-week matchup against Concordia-Moorhead - hit 2-for-4 with a double at Indiana (5/16).
2013:
Redshirted the season.
SUMMER BASEBALL:
In summer 2014, played for Rochester Honkers of Northwoods League - summer 2013, played for Chaska Cubs.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Member of the Eden Prairie High School Team and Eden Prairie Legion - 2012 team captain for the Eagles - Lions All-Star selection - during the regular season, led the Eagles with a .421 batting average, three home runs and had 13 runs and 11 runs batted in - also a part of the Eden Prairie American Legion National championship team - as a part of the 2011 championship team, batted .369 (31 hits in 84 at-bats) with 18 RBI and was the Eagles' fourth starter in the pitching rotation - In the championship game, hit the game-winning RBI against Tupelo, Miss. - played basketball for two years in high school.

Sports Management major - graduated from Eden Prairie in 2012 - born Oct. 17, 1993 - son of LeeAnn Smith and Patrick Newman.
