All Minnesota Starters Reach Base in 4-2 Win Over South Dakota State

MINNEAPOLIS- Minnesota received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Golden Gophers put four runs on the board and beat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 4-2 Wednesday.
Sophomore Tyler Hemmesch (3-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota (18-17). The right-hander went 2.1 shutout innings without giving up a hit, one walk and striking out one. Junior Noah Rooney also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out two.
Offensively, the Golden Gophers were paced by junior Drew Berkland, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Junior Sam Hunt put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Golden Gophers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Minnesota scored twice, with one run coming across on Berkland's single.
The score stayed at 2-2 until the fourth inning, when the Golden Gophers put runs on the scoreboard once again. Hunt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Golden Gophers.
Minnesota held South Dakota State scoreless before building their lead to 4-2 in the seventh inning. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as Minnesota held on for the win.
