Gophers Explode for 11 Runs in Win vs Hoosiers

Bloomington, Ind. - The University of Minnesota extended their winning streak to 12 consecutive games with an 11-0 victory over Indiana Friday night.
The Gophers are now 21-8 overall this season and 7-0 in the Big Ten after recording 20 hits off of the Hoosiers.
Alex Boxwell led-off the game with a solo-home run to start the Minnesota scoring. Matt Stemper made it 2-0 with a single over the third baseman's head, scoring Terrin Vavra to give the Gophers an early lead.
The Maroon and Gold exploded for five runs in the fifth inning beginning when Vavra hit a solo-home run to center field. Stemper broke the game open with a three-run home run with Toby Hanson and Micah Coffey on base. The final run of the inning came on a Luke Pettersen sacrifice fly to left field that scored Jordan Smith.
Stemper picked up another RBI in the top of the sixth inning when he doubled to left center, scoring Hanson.
The seventh inning marked the end of the scoring for Minnesota as they put up three more runs. The first run came on a Vavra sacrifice fly to center field which scored Pettersen. Next Coffey singled to left field plating Boxwell and McDevitt to make it 11-0.
Lucas Gilbreath started on the mound for the Gophers. He tossed 7.2 innings where he allowed zero runs on two hits, walked only one batter and struck out eight batters. This bumps the lefty up to a 4-0 record on the season.
Reggie Meyer threw the final 1.1 inning of the game. He did not allow a hit and struck out one batter.

The Gophers will play game two of the three-game series tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. central time.
