Gophers Power Through Rain Delay to Defeat Huskies in Game Three, 5-4

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team powered through a four hour long weather delay to close out their three game series with the University of Washington today, rallying from a one run deficit to take down the Huskies 5-4 and win their first Big Ten conference series at Siebert Field since the 2024 season.
Joe Sperry picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota, tossing three innings and striking out four. Adam Urban also made an impact on the mound for the Golden Gophers, throwing two shutout innings while picking up three strikeouts.
At the plate, the Golden Gophers were led by Davis Hamilton, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Jack Spanier compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jack Bello also contributed for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second, tallying the first run of the afternoon with an RBI single into right center field off the bat of Charlie Sutherland.
The Huskies then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Gophers got back on the board in the fifth. Jack Spanier sent an RBI grounder to the shortstop, driving Jackson Akin in from third.
Washington added on to their advantage and grabbed a two run lead in the seventh before Minnesota grabbed the advantage at 5-4 in the bottom of the frame. The Gophers notched three runs in the frame on an RBI single from Jack Mosh and a two RBI double out to right center from Davis Hamilton.
The Gophers were able to keep the Huskies off the board to close out the final two innings of the tilt, taking the game three win and the series win to finish the weekend.
