Golden Gophers Secure 2nd Place in Shootout at Wachesaw

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team rounded out play at the Shootout at Wachesaw in second place Monday. The Golden Gophers carded a team score of 288-289–577 at the Wachesaw Plantation Course.
"The ladies played very well. It's always fun to have a chance to win with a few holes left. We are looking forward to a great week of practice and getting to Augusta for our tournament this weekend," said Head Coach Matt Higgins after the Golden Gophers ended in second place by four strokes.
Luisamariana Mesones closed the competition tied for second after finishing round one with a final score of 69 (-3) and 71 (-1) in the second. The senior concluded the tournament with a total score of 140 (-4).
Senior Isabella McCauley carded a 69 (-3) in the first round followed by a 71 (-1) in the second. She completed the tournament tied for second alongside her teammate with a total score of 140 (-4).
South Carolina claimed a first place team finish with a final score of 573 (-3).
Notable:
Sophomore Reese McCauley shot an even total score of 144 to put her in eighth place. She ended the second round 2-under-par and totaled six birdies through 36 holes of play.
Senior Olivia Deakins closed out the day in 36th place with a total score of 155 (+11). This finish was highlighted by three birdies through 36 holes.
Lauryn Finley maintained a 41st-place finish with a final score of 166 (+22). The freshman secured par 16 times to finish out the tournament.
Senior Madison Le carded a total score of 157 (+13) after two rounds of golf. Le competed individually and placed 39th.
Looking Ahead:
The Gophers will be back on the course later this week, March 14-15, at the Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Ga., for the Valspar Invitational.
