MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's golf head coach Matt Higgins has announced that Emily Lauterbach is joining the Golden Gophers staff as the assistant coach. Lauterbach arrives in Minnesota with significant competition and coaching experience, most recently as an assistant women's golf coach at Colorado State University.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Emily to the Minnesota staff and the Gopher women's golf family," said Higgins. "Her passion for the game, commitment to student-athlete development, and shared vision for a championship culture were evident from our very first conversations!"
A native of Hartland, Wis., Lauterbach joins the Maroon and Gold after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Colorado State. During the 2025-26 season, Lauterbach coached the women to seven top-10 finishes through 10 competitions. In her debut coaching season (2024-25), she played a key role in the Rams' victory at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, where they posted a tournament-record 23-under-par score.
"I am incredibly excited to join Minnesota and work with all the players," said Lauterbach. "The program has great leadership and I cannot wait to join and support Coach Higgins' vision for the program. Working with Coach Higgins is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to learning from him. Ski-U-Mah!"
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Lauterbach competed professionally on the Epson Tour and in LPGA events, including the LPGA Ford Championship.
"She understands what it takes to play at the highest level, from her experience playing professionally and as a highly accomplished golfer in the B1G. Emily will make an immediate impact with our student-athletes and within the golf community of Minnesota," said Higgins.
Before her time as a professional, Lauterbach had a standout collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten and two-time Big Ten Women's Golfer to Watch honoree, she also earned All-Championship Team recognition at the Big Ten Championships in 2022 (T-6th) and 2023 (T-2nd). Lauterbach graduated from Wisconsin in 2023 with a degree in Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies.
