AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Golden Gophers women's golf team finished day one of the Valspar Augusta Invitational in a tie for fourth place after 36 holes Saturday. Minnesota carded a team score of 293 (+5) in the first round to sit fifth before lowering that number with a 290 (+2) in round two from Forest Hills Golf Course.

Luisamariana Mesones paced the Maroon and Gold and is in fourth place overall following a 2-under-par 70 in round one and an even-par 72 in round two. The junior picked up six birdies during the opening day of competition in Georgia and is two shots back of the individual leader.

Despite a bogey on her first hole of Saturday's second round, the sophomore went on a blistering run where she picked up six birdies across the next 10 holes.

Senior Isabella McCauley bounced back from an early bogey to pencil an opening-round score of 1-under-par 71. She recorded birdies on both the ninth and 18th holes to go with a bogey-free back nine. The senior closed the day in the same spot as her sister, tied for 21st, behind a 75 (+3) in the second round.

Using 14 pars in the opening round, senior Olivia Deakins posted a round-one score of 5-over-par 77 and ended the 36 holes of competition in 35th place after shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. Her final round featured two birdies through the back nine.
