11/13/2025 9:01:00 AM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country

The meet begins on Friday at 10:30 a.m. CT with the women's 6K.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country program continues postseason competition on Friday, Nov. 14 in Stillwater, Okla., for the 2025 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. The women's 6K will kick things off at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course at 10:30 a.m. CT followed by the men's 10K at 11:30 a.m. CT.

THE SQUAD
The Gophers will have a roster representing both sides of the program at Friday's regional.

The women's squad will consist of Lila Branchaw, Zoie Dundon, Norah Hushagen, Taylor Isabel, Charlotte Lange, Caitlyn Osanai, Nadia Phillips, Izzy Roemer and Isabelle Schmitz

The men's crew includes Emmet Anderson, Jaedyn Chase, Aloysius Franzen, Emmett Gerres, Leo Goodman, Shane Greipentrog, Aidan Jones, Tyler Kissell, Sam Scott and Nolan Sutter.

LAST TIME OUT
Both the men and women of the University of Minnesota cross country programs finished in seventh at the 2025 Big Ten Cross Country Championships in East Lansing, Mich., at Forest Akers East Golf Course on Friday morning. The Maroon and Gold's top individual finishers were Aidan Jones (26th, 24:04.2) and Isabelle Schmitz (23rd, 20:34.0).

The Minnesota men kicked off the competition at 9:35 a.m. CT, with Jones crossing first in 26th place, 22 spots better than a season ago in Illinois. Earning Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors was Aloysius Franzen, who finished second among the Gophers and 29th overall in a lifetime-best time of 24:09.8. Franzen earned the All-Freshman Team distinction by being one of the top five freshmen, or redshirt freshmen, in East Lansing. Schmitz, a Hutchinson, Minn., native, improved 19 spots from her freshman season on the women's side to pace the Maroon and Gold and finish 23rd overall in a time of 20:34.0. Behind Schmitz was Nadia Phillips' 20:38.5 to place 27th overall, an incredible 59 spots better than a season ago at the same Big Ten competition.

REGIONAL HISTORY
Minnesota has fared fairly well in its time competing in the Midwest region, particularly on the women's side. Since 2003, the women have never finished below fifth, claiming nine top-two finishes and four team titles over that span. Over that same span, the men's side has accumulated 10 NCAA Championships appearances on five top-two finishes, with one regional title to boot.

IN THE REGIONAL RANKINGS
Coming into the 2025 NCAA Midwest Regional the Maroon and Gold are ranked No. 5 in the women's Midwest Region rankings while the men's team is ranked No. 10.

ADVANCING CRITERIA
The regional championships help teams advance to the Division I cross country championships each year. The top two teams in each regional secure automatic bids to the championship. The first four regional individual finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships.

If a team doesn't secure an automatic bid, it will have to rely on the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee to select it as one of the remaining at-large teams to fill the expanded 32-team field in 2025 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Columbia, Mo. Only two individual at-large student-athletes are selected, making a strong regional performance pivotal to advancing toward a national title.
