11/7/2024 12:55:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
MINNEAPOLIS – The Big Ten Conference announced the first of its postseason cross country awards on Wednesday, with graduate student Liesl Paulsen and redshirt sophomore Tanner Klumph both earning the conference's Sportsmanship Award. The Sportsmanship Awards add on to Minnesota's Ali Weimer All-Big Ten First Team honor and Isabelle Schmitz All-Freshman distinction they earned on Nov. 1, at the Big Ten Championships.
The Sportsmanship Award honorees are individuals who have set themselves apart through hard work, sportsmanship and honorable behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and demonstrate good citizenship outside of the sports setting.
Tanner Klumph has been a part of Minnesota's top five in four of the five meets ran this season. Klumph posted a lifetime best time at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, clocking a 24:18.2 in the 8K event to finish 68th overall and fourth among the Gopher lineup. Klumph most recently completed the Big Ten Championships where he aided Minnesota's 11th-place team finish.
Liesl Paulsen competed in four cross country meets for the Maroon and Gold this season. Paulsen participated in her third career Big Ten Championships last weekend, assisting in the team's fifth-place finish in Champaign. Paulsen holds a 6K cross country lifetime best time of 21:13.7, a time she dropped at the 2022 Midwest NCAA Regional.
NCAA championship season lies ahead for the Maroon and Gold, as both the men's and women's teams will head to Peoria, Ill., on Friday, Nov. 15, for the NCAA Midwest Regional. Bradley will play host to the Regional Championship, and will hold both races on the Newman Golf Course with races starting at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
