11/5/2025 2:00:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
MINNEAPOLIS – The Big Ten Conference announced the first of its postseason cross country awards on Wednesday, with redshirt junior Zoie Dundon and redshirt sophomore Emmett Gerres both earning the conference's Sportsmanship Award. The Sportsmanship Awards add on to Aloysius Franzen's All-Freshman Team performance at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on October 31.
The Sportsmanship Award honorees are individuals who have set themselves apart through hard work, sportsmanship and honorable behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and demonstrate good citizenship outside of the sports setting.
Zoie Dundon has been inside Minnesota's top five finishers this season three times, highlighted by her lifetime best 6K performance at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational (20:49.8) on Oct. 3. At the Big Ten Championships Dundon placed 57th overall, a career-best finish in her third Big Ten Championships on the cross country course. Dundon, an All-American in the 3000m steeplechase outdoors, was also 19th overall at the 2025 Roy Griak Invitational back in September.
The closing stretch of Emmett Gerres' 2025 cross country season has been some of the strongest for the Belle Plaine, Minn., native. Gerres was second among the Golden Gopher lineup at the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 17, where he put down a lifetime best 8K time of 24:05.9. Gerres followed his lifetime best time with a lifetime best finish at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships in East Lansing, Mich. His 59th overall place at Big Tens was fifth among the Maroon and Gold lineup and helped the men finish seventh of 15.
NCAA championship season lies ahead for the Maroon and Gold, as both the men's and women's teams will head to Stillwater, Okla., on Friday, Nov. 14, for the NCAA Midwest Regional. Oklahoma State will play host to the Regional Championship, and will hold both races on the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course with races starting at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. CT.
