Gophers Fall in B1G Tourney Semifinals

Bloomington, Ind. - The University of Minnesota fell 7-5 to Iowa in record breaking semifinal at the Big Ten Tournament Saturday evening.
The game lasted 13 innings that took four hours and 57 minutes to finish, the longest in Big Ten Tournament history.
Minnesota started off the game hot, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Jordan Kozicky drew a leadoff walk then advanced to third base on a Micah Coffey single to center field. Kozicky would score on a Toby Hanson sacrifice fly to left field, Coffey moved up to second base on the play. Next, Jordan Smith singled to left field, scoring Coffey to give Minnesota an early 2-0 lead.
Iowa answered back with one run in the top of the second inning before the Gophers tacked on another two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Eduardo Estrada, Jr. led off the inning with a single to center field. Mezzenga then replaced him at first base on a fielder's choice. Cole McDevitt laid down a bunt single, advancing Mezzenga to second base. Kozicky drove a single to right center, allowing Mezzenga to score and McDevitt to get to third base. Luke Pettersen drove in McDevitt with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Maroon and Gold tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mezzenga led off the inning with a single to right field then stole second base. Two batters later, Pettersen drove him in with a single up the middle.
Brett Schulze started on the mound and tossed 3.1 innings. He allowed five earned runs on five runs while striking out three batters. Tyler Hanson took over for 2.2 innings, he did not allow a hit and struck out one batter.
Next out of the bullpen was Toby Anderson. He pitched two hitless innings where he struck out three batters. All three strikeouts came in the eighth inning. Tim Shannon entered the game and faced three batters. The senior hit one batter. Brian Glowicki was next and pitched 1.1 innings. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
Jake Stevenson took over for Glowicki. He went 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. Stevenson would strike out one batter. The final pitcher was Jackson Rose who pitched in the first game of the day versus Iowa. He faced three batters, allowing one hit.
