Box Score

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota picked up their third win of the season Saturday night after defeating Seattle University 6-3 in front of a crowd of 1,931 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The scoring started early for the Gophers when Toby Hanson doubled to right field after a Matt Stemper single. Following Stemper's run, Traxler doubled to left field, scoring Hanson. Minnesota's lead went to 3-0 after senior outfielder Jordan Smith singled past the second baseman and Traxler scored.

Seattle University tacked on their first run of the game in the top of the third inning but the Gophers answered back with a Stemper single to left center field that drove in Micah Coffey.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Alex Boxwell tripled to center field and scored Smith. The triple was the fifth triple of the season for the Gophers and the second of the series. Boxwell would then score on a Coffey single, marking Coffey's fourth multi-hit game.

Freshman Brett Schulze made his first collegiate start where he threw 5.0 innings. The Maple Grove native only allowed one hit, two earned runs and struck out four batters. He faced 19 batters, walking two of them and hitting one with a pitch. Schulze picked up the win, another career first.

Sophomore southpaw Nick Lackney took over for Schulze after he hit Dalton Hurd in the back with a pitch. Lackney lasted 2.2 innings where he struck out three batters, walked four but did not allow a run or a hit.

Senior Tim Shannon made his second relief appearance of the series and faced four batters. He gave up one hit and one earned run but struck out one batter. With the tying run on deck, Brian Glowicki took to the mound where he picked up his second save of the season. Glowicki faced three batters, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

The reigning Big Ten regular season champions look to go for the three-game sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. You can follow the action this year by following the Gophers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
