Gophers Drop Out of B1G Tournament

Minnesota was eliminated in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday following a 3-2 decision to Michigan. The Gophers (34-20) outhit the Wolverines (36-20) 7-4 in the elimination game at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
Dalton Sawyer pitched 7.0 innings and struck out six to guide the Maroon and Gold on the mound. Jordan Jess threw the final frame of relief and had one strikeout.
At the plate, Dan Motl went 2-for-3 with a run score to pace the offense. Luke Pettersen and Matt Stemper notched extra-base hits with doubles.
Minnesota scored in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly from Connor Schaefbauer, who had three sacrifices on the afternoon. Once Petteresn crossed the plate, the Gophers held a 1-0 lead.
Michigan tied it up in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI ground out.
The Gophers again jumped on top in the eighth following a run-scoring single from Austin Athmann that plated Motl and made it 2-1 in favor of Minnesota.
The Wolverines took the lead for good at 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth when they scored two runs on two hits to clinch the elimination game.
Minnesota will find out if it is bound for the postseason on Monday at noon.
