Gophers Drop Series Finale to Michigan, 8-5

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out their three game weekend against the University of Michigan this afternoon, dropping the series finale to the Wolverines 8-5 at Siebert Field.
Cole Selvig started and was credited with the loss on the mound for Minnesota. Ben Gregory was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out four.
Jack Mosh's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Davis Hamilton furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Ty Allen also helped out for the Golden Gophers, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Gophers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Jack Spanier came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota on a sacrifice fly to center from Weber Neels.
The Wolverines expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Gophers offense got back on the board, cutting into the lead in the sixth. Minnesota picked up a run on a two-out solo home run off the bat of Ty Allen, which tightened the Wolverines' lead to 8-2.
Minnesota kept the Wolverines off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 8-5 in the seventh. The Gophers tallied three runs in the frame, with an output that included a solo home run from Jack Mosh and a two run homer from Davis Hamilton.
The Gophers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again to close out the series finale.

» Minnesota's power output was led by Mosh, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
