Gophers Drop Game Four to Kansas, Split Series 2-2

3/1/2026 5:15:00 PM | Baseball

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out their four game series against the University of Kansas on Sunday afternoon, dropping the final contest with the Jayhawks 8-3 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Offensively, the Gophers were led by Weber Neels who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Jack Spanier compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-5 with a leadoff triple. Ty Allen also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly from Allen to plate Spanier after his leadoff triple.

After the Jayhawks rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Gophers came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Minnesota scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Jameson Martin, which brought the Gophers' lead to 2-1.

Minnesota's lead disappeared by the sixth inning and turned into a 4-2 Kansas advantage before the Gophers were able to cut that deficit to 4-3 on a solo home run from Neels over the left field wall.

The Gophers were unable to get any closer, as Kansas added four runs to their tally in the ninth on the way to an 8-3 final.
