Gophers Ten Run Rule Milwaukee 14-4 in Tuesday Mid-week

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team geared up for game one of a pair of mid-week matchups against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tonight, taking down the Panthers 14-4 and hitting the ten run mercy rule in the eighth inning.
Joe Sperry picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota, pitching 0.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit. Jonathan Dobis also made an impact on the mound for the Gophers, starting the ballgame and throwing three scoreless innings with one strikeout.
In the batter's box, the Gophers were paced by Ty Allen, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple and two RBIs. Jameson Martin put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Sam Hunt also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with Jack Spanier coming across the plate on a sacrifice fly from the bat of Davis Hamilton.
The Gophers then held the Panthers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Minnesota offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two run double off the bat of Charlie Sutherland that was stretched into three bases on an error by the shortstop, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of the Gophers.
Minnesota kept Milwaukee scoreless before building their lead to 7-0 in the third. The Gophers recorded a run on an RBI triple from Ty Allen, scoring Jack Spanier from second.
The Panthers gained ground, closing the gap to 7-4 until Minnesota added some insurance in the eighth. The Gophers scored seven runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Ty Allen, bringing the Minnesota advantage to 14-4 and ending the game on the ten run mercy rule.
