Maroon and Gold Complete First Tournament of Season

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - The Golden Gophers men's golf team finished its final round at the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational Monday and turned in a seventh-place performance at Windsong Farm Golf Club.
Minnesota posted a score of 4-over-par (288) during the final round and a final 54-hole score of 16-over-par in its first action of the fall season. Texas A&M collected the best team score of 1-over-par for the tournament to win the event. Individually, Frankie Harris of South Carolina, Aaron Pounds of Texas A&M, and Paul Beauvy of Iowa State tied for the best individual score of 8-under-par over the two days of competition.
Notable Performances:
Senior Cormac Sharpe (70) led Minnesota with a round of 1-under-par for the day and his 3-under-par total for the tournament earned a tie for fifth place. He picked up seven birdies Monday, all coming during a stretch of nine holes. This is Sharpe's second-straight year finishing in the top 10 at the Gopher Invitational, and is the first top-five finish of his collegiate career.
Sophomore Jack Crousore finished at even par 71 during the final round. He tallied five birdies for a total of 10 throughout the tournament. Sophomore Chun-Ta Wu (73) had a score of 2-over-par with three birdies on his card.
Freshmen Torger Ohe (74) and Joe Honsa (74) each closed out their first collegiate tournament with rounds of 3-over-par. Ohe registered a score of 5-over-par over the course of 54 holes and placed in a tie for 32nd overall.
Senior Jack Wetzel (73) collected a score of 2-over-par as an individual thanks to two birdies on the back nine.

With next weekend off, the Gophers will travel to Madison, Wis., for the Badger Invitational Sept. 22-23. The tournament will be held at TPC Wisconsin in Madison.
