Whelan and More Close Out Successful 2025 Summer Baseball Season

MINNEAPOLIS – As the 2025 summer baseball season comes to a close and athletes return to campus, a few Gopher athletes have seen exceptional success on the diamond for various teams across the country.

 

Whelan and the Bourne Braves Secure 2025 CCBL Championship

 

Will Whelan tallied a 3-1 win-loss record and one save in his nine appearances for the Braves as they ran the gauntlet to take the 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League championship. The CCBL all star racked up 20 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA over 20.2 innings of work, holding his opponents to a .174 batting average.

 

Hunt and Martin Lead Willmar Stingers to Winning Season

 

The bats of Sam Hunt and Jameson Martin helped lead the Stingers to a 38-33 record throughout the Northwoods League and a regular season finale win over the Bismarck Larks. Hunt slashed a .273 average and .886 OPS over 36 games this season, while also earning himself Northwoods League Player of the Night on June 30 against the Mankato MoonDogs. Martin made 38 appearances for Willmar this summer, posting a .301 average and tallying 32 RBI's. The duo collected seven and eight home runs respectively, enough for second and third most amongst the team.

 

Spanier Tops Stats Sheet for Upper Valley Nighthawks

 

Jack Spanier made 22 appearances with the Nighthawks this summer, collecting a .264 average with five doubles and eight RBIs over 72 at bats. Throughout the summer, Spanier topped the Nighthawks in stolen bases after swiping 17 bags in 18 total attempts.

 

Other Summer Ball Performances

 

Caden Capomaccio, Jr., RHP (Willmar Stingers) - Cappomacio made six appearances for the Stingers this summer, logging a 4.82 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 9.1 innings pitched.

 

Jonathan Dobis, Fr., RHP/OF (St. Cloud Rox) - Dobis made 13 appearances for the Rox this summer, tallying a 3-3 win-loss record and 32 strikeouts over 34.2 innings of work. 

 

Luke Ryerse, Fr., RHP (Eau Claire Express) - With one start over three total appearances on the bump this summer for the Express, Ryerse tallied a 2.61 ERA and nine strikeouts over 10.1 IP.

 

Adam Urban, Fr., RHP (Willmar Stingers) - Urban made 10 starts for the Stingers this summer, throwing 37 strikeouts over 42.2 innings pitched.

 

Jake Elbeery, R-Jr., INF (Upper Valley Nighthawks) - Elbeery made 16 appearances with the Nighthawks this offseason, tallying 15 hits and a .283 average over 53 at bats.

 

Tyler Hemmesch, So., RHP (Upper Valley Nighthawks) - Over three starts and eight total appearances this summer, Hemmesch logged 26 strikeouts over 20.2 innings of work.

 

Easton Richter, Jr., INF/RHP (Bristol Blues) - Over six games with the Bristol Blues this summer, Richter tallied a .222 average over 18 at bats with one double.

 

Weber Neels, Jr., C/INF (Bourne Braves) - Neels has made 10 appearances for the Bourne Braves early in the summer, tallying a .303 average and .804 OPS with three doubles and three RBIs.
