Minnesota's Seventh Inning Comeback Falls Short Against Wisconsin

4/19/2025 3:10:00 PM | Softball

MADISON, WI --Senior Nani Valencia picked up 100th career hit and Taylor Krapf hits a three-run home run in the seventh, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers (14-27, 3-14 B1G) fell to the Wisconsin Badgers (29-16, 9-8 B1G) 9-6 on Saturday.

Junior Syndey Schwartz (5-14) got the ball to start for Minnesota and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Gophers were paced by Senior Taylor Krapf, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Junior Breezy Burnett furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Gophers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Burnett drove in two runs for Minnesota with a single that scored Senior Reili Gardner and Nani Valencia.

The Badgers then rallied to score two runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Maroon and Gold got back on the board in the sixth. Freshman Jae Cosgriff came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota, which evened the score at 3-3.

Wisconsin busted up the tie and took a 9-3 lead heading into the seventh, when Minnesota narrowed the gap to 9-6. The Gophers scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Krapf that scored Sophomore Lucy Hooper and Senior Margaret Tobias. The ball game ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
