Minnesota Rally Falls Short in the Seventh

MADISON, WI --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Minnesota (14-28, 3-15 B1G) had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Golden Gophers on base in a 6-4 setback at the hands of the Wisconsin Badgers (29-16, 10-8 B1G) on Sunday.
Junior Presley Hosick (4-7) got the ball to start for Minnesota and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minnesota plated two runs when Junior Syndey Schwartz left the yard with Junior Breezy Burnett aboard.
The Badgers expanded their lead to 6-2 before the Gophers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. Minnesota picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from freshman Jae Cosgriff, which brought the score to 6-4 in favor of the Badgers. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed two runs across.
» Minnesota left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 28 Wisconsin hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out three.
» The 'U' drew eight walks from Wisconsin pitching.
» Schwartz led the Maroon and Gold at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
» Wisconsin was led offensively by junior Emily Bojan, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
» Senior Gabi Salo led the Badgers pitching staff, throwing six innings of two-run ball.
UP NEXT
The 'U' will be back in action tomorrow. The Gophers will take on the Badgers starting at 6pm at Goodman Diamond on Big Ten Network.
