Victories for 3V4 and 2N8 crews
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Third Varsity Four crew earned another win for the Golden Gophers rowing team before the Second Novice Eight was victorious in the regatta's final race, closing the Big Ten Invitational Saturday morning from Sarasota, Fla.
Competing among some of the nation's top programs where 13 ranked teams took to the water for the regatta at Nathan Benderson Park, Minnesota showcased its strong depth in the fours again Saturday. The Third Varsity Four boat ended the weekend by winning for the second-straight session, this time with a 25-second victory over B1G rivals Wisconsin and Iowa.
A third-place performance from the First Novice Eight crew got the morning started for the Maroon and Gold, while the First Varsity Four followed up Friday's win by finishing second in a tight race versus nationally-ranked Harvard.
In the final race of the regatta, Minnesota's Second Novice Eight boat put on a show and surged through the 2,000-meter battle to pick up the victory by 10 seconds.
