Gophers Fall on Final Day Against Oregon

MINNEAPOLIS, MN --Senior Nani Valencia racked up four RBIs, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers (14-26, 3-13 B1G) fell to the Oregon Ducks (36-4, 12-1 B1G) 5-4 on Sunday.
Junior Syndey Schwartz (5-14) got the ball to start for Minnesota and took the loss. The right-hander went two shutout innings on one hit, allowing two walks and striking out one. Junior Presley Hosick was a bright spot for the Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Valencia went 1-for-3 with a home run to get her four RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 5-0, the Gophers first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Minnesota got a grand slam from Valencia off of junior Lyndsey Grein, scoring all four of their runs in the inning. The Maroon and Gold were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
GAME NOTES
» Valencia drove in all four runs for the Gophers.
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed four runs across.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 34 Oregon hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and four fly balls while striking out eight.
» Valencia led the 'U' at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
» Oregon was led offensively by senior Kedre Luschar, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
» Junior Elise Sokolsky led the Ducks pitching staff, throwing two shutout innings.
UP NEXT
The 'U' will be back in action on Saturday. The Gophers will travel to Wisconsin for a three game series beginning at 12pm on Saturday April 19.
