Gophers Comeback Falls Short Versus ASU

Jack Spanier and Easton Richter led the Gopher offense with three hits and one home run. Spanier added two RBIs, Richter added one.
With their wins on Friday and Saturday the Gophers won the series 2-1.
Justin Thorsteinson got the start and threw 4.0 innings with three strikeouts, taking the loss.
How it Happened
- Arizona State scored first in the bottom of the first off a sacrifice fly.
- The Gophers got one in the top of the fourth when Martin was walked and came around to score off an RBI single from Jack Spanier.
- ASU then took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run.
- The Sun Devils added one in the bottom of the fifth after a failed pickoff attempt at second base to make the score 3-1 ASU.
- Gopher freshman Jameson Martin hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to bring the score to 3-2 Sun Devils.
- Arizona then got five after two RBI singles and an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 6-2 Sun Devils.
- The Gophers put together a big seventh inning scoring four runs all off solo home runs. Jack Spanier, Parker Knoll, and Easton Richter hit back-to-back-to-back solo blasts. One batter later Charlie Sutherland hit his second of the season.
- The Gophers added one in the ninth when Berkland reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a Brayden Hellum double to make the score 8-7.
Game Notes
- The Gophers hit back-to-back-to back home runs in the seventh innings. Spanier, Knoll, and Richter hit the string of blasts.
- Sutherland added another solo shot to make it four in one inning.
- This is the first time the Gophers have hit five or more home runs in a game since March 17th, 2024, at Elon.
- Freshman Jameson Martin and Charlie Sutherland both hit their second season.
- Spanier's home run was the first of his career.
