All Minnesota Starters Reach Base in 10-6 Win Against Kansas

MINNEAPOLIS- Minnesota received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Golden Gophers put 10 runs on the board and knock off the Kansas Jayhawks 10-6 Tuesday.
Junior Noah Rooney (2-2) got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota (7-7, ). The left-hander went five innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Sophomore Will Whelan also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out two.
At the plate, the Golden Gophers were paced by junior Drew Berkland, who went 3-for-5 on the day with two doubles and three RBI. Junior Easton Richter furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks and two RBI. Sophomore Jack Spanier also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Minnesota got on the board thanks to Berkland's RBI double with one out.
The Jayhawks then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the second. The Minnesota offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Spanier and a two-run triple from Richter, which brought the score to 6-4 in favor of the Golden Gophers.
Kansas narrowed Minnesota's lead to 6-5 before the Golden Gophers stretched the advantage to 7-5 in the third inning.
The Jayhawks fought back, closing the gap to 7-6 until Minnesota added some insurance in the fourth. The three-run frame for the Golden Gophers was punctuated by a two-run single off the bat of junior Weber Neels. bringing the score to 10-6 in favor of Minnesota. The score remained 10-6 for the rest of the game, as the Golden Gophers coasted to the win.
