Maroon and Gold Ready to Host University of Minnesota Classic

The home meet will be contested at the University Fieldhouse on University Ave. in Minneapolis.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher track and field program is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 with the University of Minnesota Classic at the University Fieldhouse. The meet is the third of four indoor home meets held by the 'U' this season. 
 
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CLASSIC
After a weekend in Indiana, the Gophers return to host the University of Minnesota Classic starting at 9:30 a.m. with the men's pole vault. The meet will run until about 6:10 p.m. with the 4x400m relays. The meet will not be streamed, but fans can follow live results via WayzataTiming.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Minnesota posted six different program top 10 marks/times while at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. Ali Weimer's lifetime best in the indoor 5K of 16:03.74 came at the Meyo Invitational on Friday night. Weimer's win also came with Emma Atkinson posting the No. 9 time in program history in the event with Izzy Roemer's time also 10th-fastest at the 'U'.
Additionally, Minnesota saw its Distance Medley Relay (No. 4, DMR), Hadley Streit (No. 7, Weight Throw) and Isabelle Schmitz (No. 7, Mile) all post program top 10 performances during the weekend in Indiana. For a full recap of the Midwest Classic and the Meyo Invitational, click here.
GOPHERS IN THE #EVENTSQUAD RANKINGS BY USTFCCCA
This USTFCCCA revealed its latest #EventSquad rankings, with Minnesota's 5000m and weight throw both ranked No. 4 nationally as a collective. The #EventSquad rankings are a rank order to a program's 'squad' of athletes in a particular event using the cumulative season-best qualifying marks from a team's top-four ranked athletes on a the national descending-order list.
Minnesota's 5000m (16:21.68 average time) crew catapulted to the No. 4 spot while the women's weight throw (20.05m average throw) held strong at No. 4 as well. The Maroon and Gold also saw its 60m hurdles improve to No. 5 in the country with an average time of 8.36. For a full list of the latest #EventSquad rankings, click here.
SCOTT WINS USATF U20 EVENT
University of Minnesota true freshman Sam Scott crossed the finish line first at the 2025 USATF U20 Cross Country Championships in Lubbock, Texas, on Jan. 11. The victory for the Minneapolis, Minn., native came on a day where his college teammate Nolan Sutter finished as the runner up and on the women's side Caitlyn Osanai finished third overall.
