MINNEAPOLIS- The Gopher baseball program heads west for a weekend series with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Entering the McDevitt Era
- Head coach Ty McDevitt is entering his first season as the Gopher baseball skipper. McDevitt previously served as the 'U' pitching coach from 2019-2024 and volunteer assistant from 2017-2018.
- McDevitt takes over after the retirement of longtime head coach John Anderson's 43 years at the helm of the program.
- Coach McDevitt picked up his first top ten victory after the Gophers beat No. 7 Oregon State 10-4 on Feb. 23rd.
Opponent Series History
- The Gophers and Sun Devils first squared off back in 1973 and most recently back in 1994. The Sun Devils were ranked No. 12 at that time and the Gophers picked the 14-5 victory at home.
Scouting the Sun devils
- The Sun Devils are 6-2 on the season. They picked up the opening weekend sweep over Ohio State to get off to a 3-0 start. The Sun Devils' two losses have come to UCLA (8-4) and Oral Roberts (8-7).
- Red shirt sophomore Brandon Compton leads the team with a.409 batting average.
- ASU head coach Willie Bloomquist is entering his fourth season at the helm of the program after being named head coach in June 2021.
Weekend Recap
- The Gophers went 1-2 at the 2025 Karbach Round Rock Classic. The Gophers fell to Oklahoma 3-2 on Friday and No. 2 Virginia 4-2 on Saturday.
- Minnesota picked up a top ten victory when they defeated No. 7 Oregon State 10-4. This was the first time the Gophers have beaten Oregon State since 1999. It is also their first top ten victory since beating No. 9 TCU in 2018.
Homeward Bound
- After spending three weekends on the road the Gophers will be staying home for six games at US Bank Stadium. The Gophers will face UW-Milwaukee on Tuesday, March 4th before the opening of Big Ten play versus Purdue March 7-9.
