Second Half Run Leads No. 6 Purdue Over Gophers

Jaylen Crocker-Johnson scored a team-high 17 points, Cade Tyson finished with 15 points, and Langston Reynolds added 11, but No. 6 Purdue (9-1, 2-0 Big Ten) pulled away from a three-point halftime lead en route to a 85-57 win over Minnesota (5-5, 1-1 B1G) at Mackey Arena.
Crocker-Johnson scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half, helping the Gophers trim a 12-point deficit to a 35-32 game at the half. He finished the game 6-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-9 from three-point range. The four treys tied his career-high versus Fresno State (1/7/25), while playing at Colorado State last season, and the nine three-point attempts was a career-high. Tyson reached double-figures for the 10th time this season. He was 4-of-11 from the field, but went 7-of-7 at the free throw line, and added four rebounds and four assists. Reynolds reached double-figures for the third straight game and added four rebounds and a pair of assists.
As a team, Minnesota made 20-of-56 (.357) field goals, including 6-of-25 three-pointers, and 11-of-15 (.733) free throws. Purdue held a commanding 46-23 advantage in rebounds and outscored the Gophers 40-24 in the paint (22-6 in the second half). Isaac Asuma finished with five points, five rebounds, and five assists before fouling out late, and Bobby Durkin added five points and five boards in his second start. Braden Smith led Purdue with 15 points, 12 assists, six rebounds, and five steals, while Oscar Cluff (14 pts, 11 reb) and Trey Kaufman-Renn (14 pts, 10 reb) each had point-rebound double-doubles.
Purdue jumped out to a 7-0 start before Crocker-Johnson beat the shot clock with a three from the top of the key to get the Gophers on the board. Tyson cut the deficit to 9-6 with a three-point play around the first media timeout, and a three-point play from Durkin with 13:01 left pulled the Gophers within two points at 11-9. Smith connected on his second three to put the Boilers up by five, but Grove scored to cut it to 14-11.
The Boilers followed with a 7-0 run to stretch it to a 10-point lead before Reynolds scored on a layup. A pair of Purdue layups extended the run to 11-2 for a 25-13 lead for the home team, but Reynolds scored to pull the Gophers within 10. Minnesota kept battling, and a 13-6 run that included a pair of three-pointers from Crocker-Johnson and another from Asuma narrowed the margin to 33-28, forcing a Purdue timeout with 2:03 left. A layup by Reynolds and a jumper from Crocker-Johnson sent the teams to the locker rooms with the Boilers leading, 35-32.
