No. 24 Minnesota Takes Down Iowa on Halloween

IOWA CITY, IOWA – The University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving program closed out a successful Halloween road trip today, taking down the University of Iowa Hawkeyes 190-109 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.

 

"The women did a great job with their preparation and energy and I'm proud of our team competing well on the road against a Big Ten opponent!" said head women's swimming coach, Stacy Busack. "I'm looking forward to continuing the season with a contest at home next week!"

 

No. 24 Minnesota (190) - Iowa (109)

 

The Gophers left Iowa City this afternoon taking 13 first place finishes out of 16 total events. Minnesota was led by Jade Roghair, Katie McCarthy, and Elna Widerstrom, who each took away two individual wins a piece.

 

The Gophers opened up the afternoon in the 200 medley relay, with Ava Yablonski, Ava Goodno, Morgan Thomas, and Livi Wanner swimming to a win with a time of 1:40.94.

 

Roghair and McCarthy picked up their first wins of the day in the next two freestyle events, with Roghair logging a time of 10:04.07 in the 1000 and McCarthy logging a time of 1:49.98 in the 200.

 

Kamdyn Periat and Keira Mullins went back to back in the 100 back and the 100 breast for events four and five of the day, tallying times of 55.05 and 1:03.60 respectively.

 

Rachel Conley picked up the victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.08 before Widerstrom tallied the win in the first diving event the day, tallying a score of 342.40 on the 3-meter.

 

Thomas and Elise Jacobs went back to back in the 100 free and the 200 back, with Thomas winning with a time of 50.79 and Jacobs winning with a time of 2:00.26.

 

Roghair collected her second event win of the afternoon, topping the heat sheet in the 500 free with a time of 4:53.53.

 

Widerstrom picked up the win in the second and final diving event of the afternoon, tallying a score of 330.10 on the 1-meter.

The Gophers closed out their Halloween with McCarthy picking up a second event win with a time of 2:01.65 in the 200 IM before Wanner, Mina Kaljevic, Yablonski, and Thomas would tally the win in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.53.

Freeman Aquatic Center next weekend for a border battle with No. 15/22 ranked Wisconsin, celebrating their annual Senior Day and "Pack the Pool" events. Action against the Badgers is currently set to kick off on Friday, Nov. 7, at 5:00 PM.
