Minnesota Falls to Wisconsin in a Pair of Border Battle Tilts

11/7/2025 8:10:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota swimming and diving program welcomed the University of Wisconsin to Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center tonight, falling in a pair of close border battle matchups as the women's program fell 140-160 and the men's program fell 117-177.

"A lot of positives to pull out today," said director of swimming and diving, Kelly Kremer. "Both teams performed very well. Our women's team right now, at this point of the year, is light years ahead of where we were at this time last year, so we are really excited about that. Our men's team too had a lot of great swims. Tough to have relays disqualified to start the meet, but I thought we did a really good job of battling back and pulling some really good performances from the meet. I think for early November, there is a lot to be excited about right now."

The Gophers closed out their border battle tilt collecting first place finishes in nine of the 32 total events, with the men falling 117-177 and the women falling 140-160. Diver Drew Bennett led the Gophers tonight, pulling away with two individual wins.

Minnesota collected their first win of the night in the women's 50 free, with Livi Wanner tallying a time of 22.10 to take the event.

Mina Kaljevic followed it up immediately after the first break of the dual, collecting a time of 48.75 to top the heat sheet in the 100 free.

The Gophers swept the 100 fly events on the night with Morgan Thomas collecting the win in the women's race with a time of 52.21 and Jacob Johnson collecting the win in the men's race with a time of 46.44.

Katie McCarthy put up a time of 4:10.85 in the 400 IM to close out the first place finishes in the swimming events for Minnesota.

The Gophers continued to dominate in the diving well, sweeping all four events of the afternoon.

Reigning Big Ten Diver of the Week Elna Widerstrom tallied a 332.21 to take the victory in the one meter, while Vivi Del Angel took the win in the 3-meter with a score of 361.88.

Drew Bennett took both the 1-meter and 3-meter events on the men's side, tallying scores of 350.25 and 371.40 respectively.
