Gophers Dominate for Anderson's 1,300th Win

The win tied Anderson with Fresno State's Bob Bennett (1967, 1970-2002). Valdosta State's Tommy Thomas (1968-2007) currently ranks 25th with 1,308 career wins. Anderson entered the season owning the seventh-most victories among active coaches in NCAA baseball this year.
Sam Thoresen (2-3) struck out 10 Saints in 4.0 innings of work, while the Minnesota offense exploded for 13 runs against St. Scholastica (5-8) starter Matt Tautges (2-2). The Gophers took advantage of two CSS errors for three runs in the first inning, and Easton Bertrand's fourth home run of the season helped propel them to a four-run second.
Joey Zwak hit a solo home run for the Saints in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to 9-1, but Minnesota answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Andrew Wilhite's second home run of the season. St. Scholastica plated three runs against the Gopher bullpen in the top of the seventh.
Chase Stanke singled home a run in the bottom of the inning, one of five players for Minnesota who had multiple hits in the game. Gabe Knowles led the way with a 5-for-6 game. All nine Gopher starters had at least one hit and Riley Smith added a double off the bench. Cole McDevitt and Bertrand led the way with three RBIs each.
NOTABLE
Knowles became the first Gopher to have five hits in a game since Jordan Kozicky on April 15, 2017 … Bertrand tied Kozicky for the team lead with four home runs this season … Sam Thoresen became the second Gopher in the last five days to strike out at least 10 batters (Max Meyer, 11 vs. Nebraska on Friday night).

Minnesota (12-14, 5-1 Big Ten) continues conference play on the road this weekend at Michigan. The Gophers and Wolverines have not met on the diamond since the 2016 season. Game one will air on Big Ten Network with first pitch set for 4 p.m. ET.
