Minnesota Picks Up 24th Win Over NIU

DeKalb, Ill. - The University of Minnesota improved to 24-12 overall Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies.
Nolan Burchill started on the mound for the Gophers and threw 4.2 innings. The freshman allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two batters. He received a no decision. Jake Stevenson came in for two batters, walking one of them.
Tim Shannon picked up his second win of the season after throwing 2.1 innings of relief. He struck out two batters and allowed four hits. Alex Farley came in for Shannon and faced four batters. He didn't allow a hit and struck out one batter.
Brian Glowicki closed the game for the Gophers. The senior righty struck out one batter en route to his 14th save of the season.
The Maroon and Gold struck first in the fourth inning. Jordan Kozicky led off the inning and was struck by a pitch. Micah Coffey followed that with a double to right field, advancing Kozicky to third base. Toby Hanson drove in Kozicky with a single up the middle to give Minnesota 1-0 lead.
Kozicky started the offense again in the fifth inning when he drew a two-out walk. Coffey singled to right field this time, advancing Kozicky to second base. Hanson picked up his second RBI of the game when he drove in Kozicky with a single though the right side of the infield.
Northern Illinois answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game would stay tied up until the top of the eighth inning. Hanson led off the inning with a single then advanced to second base on a Matt Stemper sacrifice bunt. Two batters later Hanson moved over to third base on a wild pitch then scored when Cole McDevitt singled to left field to give Minnesota 3-2 lead.
