Gophers Fall in First Game in California

Berkeley, Cal. - The University fell to 9-7 on the season after slipping to California, Berkeley 7-1 at Evans Diamond Tuesday.

Nolan Burchill started on the mound for the Gophers and pitched 5.0 innings. The freshman allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out two batters and picking up his second loss of the season.

Nick Lackney was the first pitcher out of the bullpen in relief for Burchill. The sophomore pitched 1.2 innings where he allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two batters. The last pitcher out of the bullpen was senior Tim Shannon. He went 1.1 innings, giving up two hits and striking out one batter in his 10th appearance of the season.

Minnesota scored one run on three hits. The lone run for the Maroon and Gold came in the top of the first inning. Alex Boxwell led off the game with a triple to right center field and was then drove in on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Luke Pettersen. It was Pettersen's eighth RBI of the season and Boxwell's team leading fourth triple of the season.
