Minnesota was defeated on Friday afternoon in a road contest at Seattle, 13-3. Austin Athmann and Matt Fiedler paced the offense by each contributing two hits in the non-conference duel.
Fiedler also got the nod on the mound and went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits to go along with three strikeouts.
The Gophers (7-4) fell behind in the third inning when the Redhawks (9-4) scraped across a run on an RBI single up the middle with two outs.
Minnesota tied the game in its next at-bat after it loaded the bases by way of a Fiedler single and walks by Athmann and Matt Stemper. Fiedler was brought home on a sacrifice fly to deep center field by Connor Schaefbauer, which knotted the game up at 1-1.
The game did not remain tied for long as Seattle took the lead for good in the home half of the fourth frame when it plated two more on a single.
After the Redhawks added another in the fifth, the Gophers got back into the game when the duo of Fiedler and Athmann combined to score two more. Fiedler opened the stanza with a double to right-center which preceded a 2-run homer by Athmann to bring the deficit down to one at 4-3.
Seattle followed by scoring four, two and three in consecutive frames to take the contest, 13-3.
The two teams resume their series tomorrow at 2 p.m.
