Gophers Fall 9-8 to Michigan in Game Two

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team continued their weekend series this afternoon with game two against the University of Michigan, falling to the Wolverines 9-8 at Siebert Field despite an eighth inning lead.
Brandon Jaenke was credited with the loss on the mound for Minnesota. Marcus Kruzan started the ballgame and went four innings while striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Minnesota scored twice in the inning on back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Jackson Akin and Jack Bello.
The Gophers then held the Wolverines scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Minnesota scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Easton Richter, bringing the Gopher lead to 5-0.
Michigan fought back to even the ballgame at five before Minnesota reclaimed a 7-5 advantage in the sixth inning. The Gophers added two to their tally on a two run homer off the bat of Jack Bello.
Minnesota surrendered the lead they built in the sixth, but got back on the scoreboard in the ninth trailing 9-7. The Gophers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Jack Spanier.
The Gophers were unable to get any closer, as game two of the series came to a close with Minnesota falling 9-8.
