Werner Earns Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honor

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota softball senior Maggie Werner has been named one of 17 Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award honorees for the 2026 season. The award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship, ethical behavior, academic achievement, and good citizenship both on and off the field.
A leader throughout her career in the Maroon and Gold, Werner appeared in 51 games for the Gophers during the 2026 campaign while serving as one of the team's most consistent offensive and defensive contributors. The senior hit a team-leading .311 with nine doubles, five home runs, 18 RBIs, and a .426 on-base percentage. She also drew 25 walks and posted a .990 fielding percentage.
Werner has been a steady presence in Minnesota's lineup and clubhouse, earning the respect of teammates and coaches alike through her work ethic, leadership, and commitment to the program. Her five double plays turned ranked among the team leaders defensively, while she finished the season with 42 hits and 26 runs scored.
The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award annually honors one student-athlete from each conference institution who demonstrates the ideals of sportsmanship throughout the season.
