Minnesota Falls in Regular Season Finale at Northwestern

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Minnesota Golden Gophers were held to just one hit on Sunday, falling 6-0 to the Northwestern Wildcats in the regular season finale at the Ballpark at Rosemont.
Natalie Susa (1-8) got the start for Minnesota (16-35, 7-17 B1G) and took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing six runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Natalie Richardson came on in relief, recording the final out of the sixth inning and striking out one.
Offensively, the Golden Gophers were limited by Northwestern's Marina Mason, who struck out 12 and allowed just one hit across seven innings . Senior Maggie Werner accounted for Minnesota's lone hit with a double in the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel through five innings before Northwestern broke through in the bottom of the sixth. The Wildcats strung together five hits in the frame, scoring six runs to take control of the game.
Minnesota threatened in the top of the sixth after Werner's double and a pair of walks, but were unable to capitalize. Northwestern closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win.
