STATE COLLEGE, PA. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out their final weekend road trip of the 2026 regular season this afternoon, dropping their game three series finale 4-3 to Penn State University at Medlar Field.

Joe Sperry came out of the bullpen for Minnesota and was credited with the loss. Cole Selvig was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, starting the ballgame and throwing five innings, giving up one run on four hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Easton Richter went 3-for-4 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with a double and two RBIs. Jack Mosh added to the power-hitting performance by going 2 for 2 with two doubles along with one walk. Charlie Sutherland also helped out for the Golden Gophers, going 2-for-4.

The Gophers were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board, tying up the game on a leadoff home run off the bat of Easton Richter.

The Nittany Lions broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the seventh inning, when the Gophers got back on the scoreboard. Brayden Hellum came across to score on an RBI groundout to second from Jack Spanier, cutting the Penn State lead to 4-2.

Minnesota held the Nittany Lions off the board before narrowing the gap to 4-3 in the eighth, adding another run on Easton Richter's second solo shot of the afternoon.

Neither team scored again in the ballgame, as Minnesota closed out game three with a 4-3 loss.
