Richter Homers Twice in 6-4 Victory Over Omaha, Gophers Win Cambria College Classic Title

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out the 2026 Cambria College Classic tonight against the University of Nebraska at Omaha, taking down the Mavericks 6-4 at U.S. Bank Stadium to claim the tournament title.
Caden Capomaccio picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota. The right-hander went three shutout innings while striking out two. Joe Sperry also made an impact on the mound for the Gophers, throwing two scoreless innings while tallying two strikeouts.
Easton Richter went 3-for-4 at the plate, supplementing two home runs with a double while driving in three runs. Davis Hamilton added to the power-hitting performance by going 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Sutherland helped out for the Gophers, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got the scoring started in the first, putting one run on the board early with the first of a pair of solo home runs from Richter.
The Mavericks then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Gophers got back on the board in the fifth.
An RBI double from Richter drove in Jack Spanier before he would tie the game by scoring on a wild pitch. A two RBI single from Davis Hamilton put the Gophers back into the lead before the end of the inning.
Minnesota held Omaha without a run before building their lead to 6-4 the following inning with another Richter home run.
The Gophers held Omaha scoreless throughout the final three innings of the games, claiming the 6-4 victory and the tournament title.
GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed four runs across.
