Gophers Continue Hot Streak with 11-8 Victory Over Gonzaga

3/10/2026 10:10:00 PM | Baseball

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team continued their hot streak to start the 2026 season tonight, taking down the Gonzaga University Bulldogs 11-8 in a mid-week tilt at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Josh Kirchhoff picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota, tossing three innings. Luke Ryerse also made an impact on the mound for the Gophers, starting the ballgame and throwing three innings with one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. Minnesota plated two runs when Easton Richter left the yard with Jack Spanier on base.

The Gophers then lost some of their lead before expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Bulldogs cut it to 2-1. Weber Neels came across to score on a wild pitch for Minnesota, bringing the Gopher lead to 3-1.

Minnesota's lead had disappeared once the fourth inning arrived and turned into a 5-3 Gonzaga advantage before the Gophers re-gained control at 7-5. A bases loaded hit by pitch and three consecutive bases loaded walks plated four runs for Minnesota, swinging back the advantage in their favor.

The Bulldogs tied the ballgame at seven in the fifth before Minnesota fought back to retake their advantage in the sixth inning. The Gophers added two runs in the frame on a grounder from Davis Hamilton and an RBI double from Michael Lippe to make it 9-7.

Minnesota held Gonzaga off the scoreboard before building on their lead to 11-7 in the following inning. The Gophers pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Charlie Sutherland that scored Jack Mosh and Richter. Gonzaga put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Gophers were able to hold on for the 11-8 win.
