CHICAGO, Ill. -- Gophers freshman Arianna Ostrum was named Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week while junior Jordyn Lyden earned Event Specialist of the Week, the conference announced today.
Ostrum had the day of her career so far on Sunday, posting a 39.625 all-around score in a Big 4 Meet title for Minnesota. She helped Minnesota to a season-high 197.700 score, posting team season-bests on bars, beam and floor.
Ostrum won event titles in the all-around, uneven bars and on the floor. She earned a career-best 9.925 on the uneven bars, topping her previous best of 9.775, to win her first title on the event. She posted a 9.925 balance beam score, adding to the team's best score of the season at 49.525. Ostrum also tied for the event title on the floor with a 9.925, adding to the Gophers season-best of 49.525. She defeated veterans Nikki Smith (MSU) and Chloe Cho (Illinois) for the all-around title. Her score was the Gophers best all-around score since AAI Award Winner Lexy Ramler in 2022. She currently leads Minnesota with eight event titles in 2026. Ostrum was also named Inside Gymnastics' Gymnast of the Week for her performance. Her all-around score tied UCLA's Jordan Chiles for the best in the Big Ten this week.
Jordyn Lyden had one of the best days of her junior season, winning two event titles in a Big 4 Meet title for Minnesota. She tied for her third floor title of the season with a 9.925 and helped Minnesota earn its best floor score of the season at 49.525. She won an event title on balance beam with a 9.950, adding to the team's best score of the season at 49.525. It was her first beam title of the year. Lyden then posted a 9.875 on the uneven bars, helping the Gophers to a season-best 49.425 score on the event. She missed winning the event title by just 0.5, meaning she would have won all three events.
Lacie Saltzmann won Big Ten Freshman of the Week in mid-January and is the team's only other weekly award winner this season.
No. 13 Minnesota (9-3, 7-2 B1G) is back in action on Friday, March 6 at No. 18 North Carolina (7-8, 1-5 ACC) at 5:45 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
