3/29/2026 6:27:00 PM | Baseball
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out their first conference home series of the 2026 season against Ohio State University this afternoon, falling to the Buckeyes 12-9 in game three at Siebert Field to close out the weekend.
Luke Ryerse was credited with the loss on the mound for Minnesota. Marcus Kruzan started the ballgame and went four shutout innings while allowing one hit and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Michael Lippe to score Easton Richter from third base.
The Buckeyes failed to push any runs across before the Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways in the second, pushing another across on a two-out RBI double from Jack Spanier to bring the score to 2-0 in favor of the Gophers.
Minnesota's lead had disappeared by the time the sixth inning came around and turned into a 4-2 Ohio State advantage before the Gophers re-gained control. The Gophers scored three runs in the inning, all of them coming on a three-run homer over the left field wall from Easton Richter.
Minnesota lost the lead they built in the sixth but got back on the scoreboard in the eighth, scoring four runs in the inning with a bases loaded walk and a three-run double off the bat of Charlie Sutherland to cut the deficit to 12-9.
The Gophers were unable to get any closer before the end of the game with neither team scoring throughout the ninth.
