Gophers Fall 9-3 to Buckeyes in Game Two of Weekend Series

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team played game two of their Big Ten Conference home opener series against Ohio State University today, falling 9-3 to the Buckeyes at Siebert Field this afternoon.
Isaac Morton got the ball to start for Minnesota and was credited with the loss. Will Whelan was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 shutout innings with two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling to a 4-0 deficit to begin the game, the Gophers first put a run on the board in the seventh inning with a solo home run over the left field wall off the bat of Sam Hunt.
The Buckeyes expanded their lead to 9-1 before the Gopher offense got back to work in the ninth, scoring on an RBI single up the middle from Jack Spanier and a sacrifice fly from Weber Neels.
The Gophers were unable to get any closer before the end of the final frame, falling in the contest at a score of 9-3.
